On 13th and 14th December 2018 in Strasbourg, the Children’s Rights division of the Council of Europe, in association with the Special Representative of the Secretary General on migration and refugees, has organized an international roundtable with participants – experts of child welfare and protection systems, state officials and international organizations from Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Serbia, Spain and UK. Main theme of the roundtable was the effective protection of the rights of migrant and refugee children as it is a concern of key priority of the Council of Europe (“Action Plan on protecting refugee and migrant children (2017-2019)”. Particularly, discussion sessions were about enhancing the knowledge and skills of professionals, raise awareness of and remedies to violence and sexual exploitation and abuse, providing adequate support for unaccompanied children, as well as common challenges different strategies and proposals toward a shared assessment of progress. A representative from the Institute of Child Health – Department of Mental Health and Social Welfare (GR) was honored to take part in this roundtable and contribute with experiences from the field.
